A yellow flower...

______________________

She sighed as she plucked the yellow flower gently from its stem. She continued down the path onto the palisade. It was so beautiful, no clouds, the calming sound of the waves crashing below. It could almost be something out of a summer romance movie. In fact, it almost was. This was the spot where he'd first kissed her. The only difference now was that the weather was frigid, and she was alone. When she reached the end of the palisade, she carefully climbed down to the lower part; their spot. She hadn't told anyone about it except for her best friend, a boy she had known since she was 7. She sat down on the edge, her feet dangling off the edge. The tears came slowly at first. Soon, they were gushing down her pretty face, leaving it streaked and red. She had thrown the yellow flower to her side. The chilly wind whipped her hair about her face, as she buried it in her knees that were pulled up to her chin. The muffled sobs she was emitting were barely audible over the crash of the waves. There she sat, curled up, for two hours. She was still crying when she felt a warm arm loop itself over her cold shoulders. She looked up to see her best friends face. He was holding the yellow flower in the hand that wasn't over her shoulder. He pushed back her hair, and placed the flower behind her ear, and wiped away her tears with his thumb. She smiled weakly at him, and lay her head on his shoulder. The two sat there for a long time, until eventually, and the sun was setting, a strong gust of wind blew the flower out of her hair. They watched it sail down, and land in the surf below, a small dot of yellow in the vast pool of blue and white.

A yellow flower is what I come upon on my path to the ocean today.

The yellow flower reminds me of my grandma who loved yellow.

I think of her fondly and realize that she is with me today.

I love going to the ocean to sit and relax, my getaway.

Today I have my grandma close to me.

The water at the top is blue glass
It pulls over the dam and turns
Instantly into a frothy, spitting,
Cascade of water. Winding stairs
crawl down the cliff side.
Dandelions have made their home
in this rock. A never-ending rainbow
hovers gracefully in the hazy air.

While standing on the bridge that crosses
over the falls and looking straight down
at foamy white water, Elisa said,
“Look at that and tell me there is no God.”
We worshipped there. Roaring water
was our music. When we raised our hands,
and closed our eyes, our lids met the mist.
And we knew what glory meant.

A yellow flower maked the edge of my world. It was the last living thing before our property ended. I often stood there looking beyond. The ocean, the hills, the rest of the world. I didn't ask for much and what I asked for I usually got. What I didn't get didn't bother me, but this piece of the the world, this little corner I could not have and it made me itch. One day, i decided I would just have to scratch it.
I seized the yellow flowers from the ground, removing the barrier. The hill was steep but I climbed down and in the direction of the ocean, naive about what I might find.

A yellow flower shall forever catch sight in my eyes, no matter what part of the earth it may grow from.

A yellow flower shall forever remind me of joy and love, peace and trust; no matter what path of life I may be on.

A yellow flower keeps me young as it refreshes me with the memories of my childhood and washes away the burdens of adulthood.

A yellow flower, so sweet and precious, forever will remain a treasure to me.

love it- we the pieces!

Laughter shines in their faces
Happiness echoes in the wind
Cheer radiates from their sways
They smile up at the sky

Their heads raised in comfort
Touching the soul
Making it lighter
A small gift given to us
