Swiftly through the air
Beats her wings of seduction.
Drawn to the Acacia blossom,
An eternal source of honey-sweet blessings,
At least until the season ends.

Her beating heart does not race,
But marks out a steady beat
As the air at the wingtips murmurs
And rumbles a daytime sonata.

Her presence is tiny
Her focus is humble,
She gathers the nectar
To nourish her young.

How much can she tell us
In the ease of her being?
How much will we learn
In the fleetest of moments,
When time becomes frozen
And the heart swells with joy?

She hovers in still time,
Making it flower
With petals of hope.
A reminder of innocence,
Life kept in balance,
When air, earth and flower
Melt into one.

Hummingbirds are a coming to stop by and fly so gracefully
I watch from my window to see their beauty
Yes, I am ready for them
Their nectar is ready
The flowers have been plant
I am waiting paitiently for them to come
Come to see me again this year
Returning like old friends

Flittery
Fluttery
Flower to flower
Hummingbird flies,
Tiny and sparkling,
Searching out nectar,
Fierce from hunger.

All that flapping, just
to stay in one place. Were eating
such hard work, would I
still do it? You do,
and so gracefully. I've never
seen a bead of sweat
on your tiny brow; you
naturally hover
conveniently outside
my window, teasing:
"Look what I can do!"
The blossoms drop their nectar
into your needle mouth. The reward is
beautiful and nourishing,
I suppose.

Flitting fleeting moments past
Flying falling down so fast
Jutting jumping catching sky
Happy heartbeats floating by.

My post today also had a hummingbird picture. Awesome people think alike. :)

Barbara's joy is outside
her window;
her aging eyes see sorrow within,
so the hummingbird Hanky lifts her spirits as he twits and flits
through her citrus trees in bloom.
It's spring again, the time for hope and new life outside her room.

Barbara reflects and watches Hanky
bring wild past memories alive.

Long live Hanky the Hummingbird!

A Complementary Hummingbird

What marvelous evolutionary adaptations!

What improbable aerodynamics!

What lovely shades of green, yellow, and lavender!

What? A non-bug-eating bird?

What? No more overly brittle eggs?

Pretty bird!

Lured by the sumptuous scent of the lavender-hued blossom, the hummingbird suspended its flight mid-air and hovered miraculously in an apparent defiance of gravity.

Scientist, engineer, artist, entomologist, environmentalist, child, and poet:
complementary paradigms converging for a moment in time.

*sigh, third time's the charm?*

The way your wings flutter
You'd make great butter
If I caught you in a churn

Such fine little cutters
That make not a mutter
Your keep I know you'd earn
