I am afraid the world will
drown beneath our sadness,
brim-full with anguish, tormented,
with storms and rage and grief.
It cannot hold it in.

Take hope in history, our glorious past,
and pour forth your sadness.
Because after all, our world is flat,
and the tears will simply roll off the edge.

~ Zebuess

One week after the photo or picture is posted I will pick one offering to put beneath the image. This is a way of celebrating exceptional creativity. Any and all posts are available for your creative mind to make an offering at any time (even ones where a writing has been placed on the front page like this one). If you are new here and want to offer to every image here, feel free. We are writers, WRITE! If this is your exceptional writing posted here on the Front Page Pictures, Poetry & Prose invites you to include the Exceptional Writing Award Button on your blog. Today's photo is a metaphor for humanity! Let's hope there is a westward current at the edge strong enough to draw us back.

Leaning against the wall, she felt nervous watching him. His movements were erratic; his face was expressionless. When standing on the subway platform every day, she couldn't help but people watch. This particular Monday evening was different, and so was this subject of her scrutiny. As she watched him, a coldness seemed to creep over her shoulders. She knew that she had to watch him. Her awakened soul was working within her. She noticed how he was walking with a determined gait towards the platform's edge. Called to action, she yells, "Watch, the platform's edge!" Grabbing his arm, she gazes into the eyes of despair. With a resolute air, he whispers, "This is the edge of my world." He moves away from the platform's edge. Will he return another day?

"The world's not flat"
That's what you said;
But look at that -
We are so dead!

Even the cat
Shook his sad head
At your crap prat -
Why are we wed?

You stupid rat -
See where you've led?
We will go splat,
Full steam ahead!

Monstrous waters want to swallow us within its depths. We sail through wind and rain. Watching the world around us swarm in wisps of waves and sprays of salt.

Hold on.
There is a light beyond the clouds.

The water tosses us to and fro. We sail bravely, faithfully, looking forward. We are soaked in splashing seas and pouring rain. Unrelenting, the storm continues on.

The end is near.
The reward comes with the edge of the world.

Seeing it approach makes our hearts stutter. Then the water falls from beneath us and we are free. Free to fly toward the light. Beyond the clouds.
